The Bay Area Apartment Association (BAAA) is partnering with the Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative (THHI) to organize the Spring 2025 Speed Leasing event on May 19th at 10AM.  The goal of the Speed Leasing event is to match households assisted by THHI and its nonprofit partners with BAAA-member housing providers in Hillsborough County.  BAAA members with available rental units located in Hillsborough County are invited to sign up for a table and bring up to three of your team members to the event.

What to Expect

The event will be in-person and take place in the large conference at St. Vincent De Paul's Office in Tampa.  BAAA members will have a table where they can showcase their properties and vacant units, and BAAA Members will be asked to make a short presentation about their properties.  The event will be from 10AM-12PM on Monday, May 19, and we anticipate presentations will start around 10:15AM.  We expect up to a dozen case managers who work with THHI and up to 50 households they support, to attend the event.  After the presentations, case managers and assisted households will have the opportunity to walk from table to table to discuss housing options with BAAA members.  Some households may be ready to apply on the spot, but most will follow up with housing providers in days/weeks following the event.

Key Items to Know

Assisted households may have some blemishes in their rental histories.  To help mitigate any risks to housing providers, THHI is providing a number of incentives, including:

  • Security Deposit (up to 2 times the rent if there is a credit issue),
  • Last month, if needed (due to client application issue),
  • Prorated 1st month’s rent, if applicable
  • Application and Admin fees,
  • Utility Deposit and/or Arrears.
  • Up to $2,000 in mitigation funding to address damages through the Community-wide, Affordable, Supportive Housing (C.A.S.H.) Program,

Rent amounts will be limited by the HUD's published Tampa Fair Market rent, and each unit must also meet a rent reasonableness standard.
